Revelation of Evil pt 3-3

They both left without eating anything.

Gabriel Matthews and Christina Baker sat side by side in Cody's Ridgeline. It had been what seemed like days since their conversation at the resurant in D.C even though in reality it had only been a matter of hours. Cody had insisted that they drive, not fly to Montana as she had hoped. No, Cody claimed that if they bought plane tickets they would be to easy to track and would inevitably be caught and arrested by the F.B.I. So here they were sitting in Cody's truck for some 33 hours and taking turns driving in shifts of 6 1/2 hours each and only stopping sparticaly for food and to use the bathroom. hey both stared ahead waiting for the showdown that would take place in three days.

"Are you ok?" Nina asked

"I'll be fine once this thing is over. Why do you ask?"

"You just look very tired and unshaven."

"So?"

"So what? I'm just saying that's all. You don't have to jump all over me!"

"I'm sorry I'm just tired and unshaven." Cody said giving Nina a wink.

"Huh!? You are huh? And just what are you going to do about it?"

"I don't know. Nothing until I'm in Montana that's for sure."

"You sure? Because you really don't look very good."

"I don't feel so great but I'm not stopping until the state line."

"That's fine with me." Replied Nina knowing that she had very little say in the matter anyway.

So they rode on in silence, neither one of them knowing the horrors that awaited them.

Clineaus Grey sat at his makeshift table in the middle of the Sanctuary of the Monastery and stared at the floating hologram in front of him.

"You have done well Clineaus." Said a voice "Soon we will have Gabriel Matthews in our custody."

"Yes sir." said Clineaus

"Let me know as soon as you have him. I very much want to speak with him."

"Yes sir. I'll have him and report to you on the 15th."

"Until then Clineaus."

"Until then sir."

"What weapons did we bring again?" Nina asked

"Four AR's four Frag' grenades and four Colt 45's. Why?"

"Just wanted to know what I need to bring."

"Bring? It's a gun fight Nina. You don't bring anything you don't need."

"I meant equipment wise. A girl needs to know these things. Besides, I need to know what shoes to wear."

"Ha Ha very funny." Cody said. "Maybe I should accessorize too. That way we can match in the mugshot photos if we get caught."

"Okay Cody. That's just mean." Nina said. "I was just being funny and you didn't have to shoot me down."

"I wasn't. I was being serious. Or was I?"

Nina leaned over and punched Cody in the arm. Not aiming to hurt but maybe just a little harder than was necessary.

"OW! What was that for?"

"I don't know. I just felt like it I guess."

"Well maybe I just feel like this!" Cody said taking his hands off of the wheel and covering his eyes.

"No stop!!" Nina shouted "You're going to get us killed before we even get there!"

Nina's words stopped Cody short. This was the first time the thought had actually occurred to either one of them. The fact that they may not make it back was a thought that both knew but neither talked about.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say it like that."

"It's fine. I'm sorry I dragged you into this." Cody said remorsefully

"You didn't drag me into this. I came willingly."

"Really?"

"Yes. Because if I hadn't come willingly you would be in handcuffs right now and facing charges of kidnapping and refusal to follow orders."

"You think so?" Asked Cody

"I know so. I also know that when we get to Montana we will find Clineaus, take him down and put him behind bars for the rest of his miserable life. And that my daddy will know nothing of this little escapade we're going on until it's to late to stop us and he won't be mad anyway."

"And why wont he be mad huh?" asked Cody doubtfuly.

"I don't know. I just think he'll be more happy that we have Clineaus than mad that we broke several federal laws." Nina said with a smile.

"Yeah" said Cody "If I know him like I think I do then you're right."

"Of course I'm right! I'm always right!"

"Now there is where you go wrong." Said Cody. "I'm only right 90 percent of the time and I'm more right then you are."

"Are not!!"

"What about that time in Berlin? I was right about the cabby. Then there was that time in..."

"Okay, Okay I get it you don't have to rub it in!" Nina retorted.

"I wasn't rubbing it in! I was simply stating what had happened."

"Uh. Cody? How long has that been there?" Asked Nina tentatively.

"What? How long was what been there?"

"That thing I'm not sure what it is but it's getting closer really fast!"

"What the!" Was all Cody managed to say about the thing in his rear view mirror before the trucks windows were blown out by a bone jarring explosion that was shortly followed by an ear splitting screech.

"That's what I was talking about!" Yelled Nina over the noise.

"Duly noted." Cody yelled back. "Now what are we supposed to do about it?"

No sooner had the words left his mouth than the truck seemed to stop instantly. Cody looked around to see what seemed to be a black metal beast had grabbed the tailgate of his truck and was proceeded to attempt to pick them up. Seeing this Cody almost put the gas pedal through the floor in an attempt to get away. To his surprise, it worked! Although the monster remained the sole owner of a badly used tailgate.

"Take the wheel!" Cody shouted.

"What? How am I supposed to take the wheel.." Nina didn't have time to argue before Cody was in the back seat loading his guns.

Five minuits earlier, in Montana Clineaus sat on the roof of the monastery and thought. He thought about the next days events and thought about how he was going to arrange them. For even though Cody, at the moment, was clueless to the bigger scheme of things. Clineaus definitely had the advantage here. Stirring himself from his day dream Clineaus looked up just in time to see a large black jet fly over at and astonishingly low altitude and blisteringly fast. Not seeing it as a threat Clineaus dismissed it and headed down stairs to get some sleep for the next day.

Pushing the ridge line to it's limits, Nina speed down Hwy. 94 in North Dakota.

"What are we going to do about this?!" Nina shouted over the noise of the wind, the monster and Cody's futile attempts at shooting it.

"I don't know! Just keep driving and don't hit anything!" Cody screamed back.

Cody frantically looked around for something; anything, that he could maybe use to drive this thing away. Whatever that might be. All he could find were some empty pringles cans, the four grenades they brought, his propane camp stove and some duck tape. Suddenly, he had an idea. One of those ideas that are so crazy that they might just work. Cody went to work making a makeshift bomb with the grenades and propane canister.

Noticing that Cody had stopped shooting, Nina took the opportunity in the relative quiet to speak up about her end of things.

"Have you lost your mind?! This is insane and foolhardy!"

"We're fine!" Cody assured her. "Just whatever you do don't stop!"

"Ok just let me know if things need to change." Nina rolled her eyes and kept driving

"Will do hun."

Having assembled his homemade bomb Cody was now faced with a more important dilemma: how was he going to get this thing out of his car before it blew up?

Suddenly he figured out how he was going to get this bomb in the air, and more importantly; in the monster.

"Try not to swerve!" Cody yelled. "If you do I'm going to fall and die!"

"What?!" scream-asked Nina. "Oh no you're not! Get back in this ca-!"

She had no more said what them Cody had tied himself to the luggage rack on top of the cab and was stepping out onto the nearly non-existent tail bed. Screaming and waving his arms Cody managed to get the monsters attention. Cody braced himself as the monster looked at him and leaned forward to grab him. With the monster rushing toward him and a 100 mph wind blowing at his back Cody almost forgot to pull the pins on the grenades. After groping at them frantically for several seconds, Cody finally got the last one free of the grenade. Knowing he had only seconds before the "bomb" went off he screamed all the louder and leaned as far forward as he could. The monster was now only about ten yards away and appeared to have an open mouth of sorts. Cody knew that this was his only chance if they were going to get rid of this thing. And with one last yell of exertion Cody heaved the homemade bomb into the monsters mouth and started to count the seconds out loud.

one...two...three...four...five... Cody began to wonder if it was going to go off at all.

BAM!!! A gigantic fire ball exploded from where the monsters head used to be. The force of the explosion threw Cody almost all the way back into his drivers seat and rocked the truck up onto it's front two wheels. Nina stopped the truck in spited of herself and looked around dazed and confused.

"What the heck was that?!" Nina demanded.

Cody just sat in between the front seats and grinned in disbelief. The body of the monster lay in a crumpled heap about 200 yards away and the head was nowhere to be seen.

"How did you manage to do that?" Asked Nina.

"You wouldn't believe me if I showed you." Cody mumbled, still a little stunned his bomb actually worked that well. "do you have any idea what that was?"

"No I don't" Nina responded. "how was it following us at 120 miles per hour?"

"I think it was flying or hovering or something."

"Well, whatever it was I sure hope it doesn't have friends."

"You and me both. Lets get out of here."

"Sounds good to me." Nina said. "But this time; you drive!"

"Ok." Cody said laughing.

That night they arrived at Oak Grove and spent the night in a hotel that if the cockroaches hadn't cleaned it would have been sleazy. Neither one of them knew that the events of the next day would change their live forever.

The next morning around 5am Cody walked downstairs to Nina's room. Doughnuts in hand Cody knocked on the door

The next day Cody and Nina approached the monastery cautiously not knowing what may be in store for them.

Clineaus watched them both from his hiding spot and unsuccessfully tried to stifle a snicker.

"What's that? Come out with your hands above your head!" Called Cody.

Knowing that the gig was up Clineaus decided to obey and stepped out from behind the marble carving of St. Peter.

"Hello Cody" Said Clineaus "I've been waiting a long time for you."

"Why?" asked Cody. "Why would you be waiting for me?"

"I told you I would didn't I?"

"Yes you did" said Cody keeping his gun pointed at Clineaus' head. "But why here and why me?"

"Before I answer that can we please put the guns down and talk like civilized people?"

"You first." Cody said. "I'm the last one to trust you at this point."

"Ok." Said Clineaus disappearing into thin air and reappearing right behind Nina.

"What the?" Nina said. "How did you do that?"

"Put the guns down and we can all explain ourselves over a nice hot cup of coffee." Clineaus said with just a tad more shove in his voice.

"Not after that! I'm not letting you out of my sight!" Cody said.

"Ok, you forced me to do this."

Before Cody or Nina could ask what he meant Clineaus had disappeared again and with him the guns and ammo that they were carrying.

"Ok fine. I'll sit down and talk to you. No coffee though. I don't know what you put in it." Cody said.

"Thank you for cooperating." Said Clineaus.

The three sat down at Clineaus' table that was stationed among the pews and hymnals.

"So what do you want?" Nina asked after Clineaus had gotten his coffee and sat down.

"What do I want? you ask. Well let me tell you. But I must ask for your ears and minds."

"Ok. I'm listening." Said Cody smugly "spit it out so I'm not late for Washington."

"Thank you. But I don't think you'll be worried about Washington after you hear me speak."

"Well see about that." Cody said.

"Well now down to business. You guys ready?"

"Quit stalling and get it over with." Nina said.

"Ok fine were goes nothing. I am not who you think I am. I am not a criminal like you perceive me to be. I am, however, a Commanding Officer in the underground army of the rebellion."

"Whoa whoa whoa! There is no way. There haven't been any rebellions in the U.S.A in over 200 years. And there is no way you're talking about space or anything." Cody said

"As a matter of fact I am talking about space and everything. I know it sounds an awful lot like starwars or something but it's true. Is there anything I can tell you or show you that will convince you as to my innocence?"

"I don't know." Said Nina. "I'm willing to believe almost anything after that monster thing attacked us on the highway."

"What did it look like?!" Clineaus demanded.

"What does it matter?" Cody said, still with a careful eye on Clineaus and a smug look on his face.

"It could mean life or death to you, Nina and even me if it was from Crimson."

"Who in the world is Crimson?" Asked Nina.

"It's not who in the world, it more like what and in the galaxy." said Clineaus "We must leave now! Come with me."

"I'm not going anywhere with you!" Cody said standing. "We drove all the way here and now you think that you're going to get away just like that? I don't think so. I'm taking you in and putting you away for a long time."

"Cody." Nina said calmly. "I think we can trust him. I mean that monster that attacked us was pretty strange. I've never seen that kind of plane or car in my life."

"Ok fine I'll play along. I'm not going to be shipped off the space camp or anything."

Clineaus laughed. "I'm not going to ship you off to space camp or anything. Now everyone hang on to me!"
Everyone grabbed a piece of Clineaus and held on for dear life. Clineaus touched a button on his watch and tele-ported them into the unknown......
